A bi-monthly queer focused reading group associated with Queer Salon MCR.
This book club selects and explores recent and new texts about queer spaces, nightlife, transformation and cultural production.
For our first reading group, we selected ‘Roses for Hedone: On Queer Hedonism and World-Making Through Pleasure’ By Prishita Maheshwari-Aplin. ‘Roses For Hedone’ borrows from the Ancient Greek’s understanding of love’s multiplicity, exploring queer hedonism as transformation rather than indulgence. Examples in the book include conversations about experiences of euphoria through partying, art-making, protest and community care.
Looking at key themes from ‘Roses for Hedone’, the first reading group in this series will share and discuss four short texts from each chapter: Exploration, Emancipation, Expression and Collaboration. The excerpts we will discuss will be shared before the event, but it is not necessary to have read them before coming.
Places are FREE but you must register on Eventbrite with your email adress so we can send you the readings.
